VIJAYAWADA: A seven-month-old baby girl was allegedly kidnapped, raped and abandoned by the roadside at Bodanampadu village of Macherla mandal in Guntur district. The incident happened during the wee hours of Tuesday. Family members found the baby and informed the police.
According to Macherla Rural circle inspector Bhaktavatchala Reddy, at around 2am, the mother of the child woke up to find the baby missing from her cradle. Both parents began their search for the child and after three hours they found the injured baby in an unconscious state by the bushes, a 100 metres from their home.
Cops said the baby had injuries on her lips and private parts and was bleeding profusely. They sent the child to Guntur Government General Hospital (GGH) for treatment and medical examination. Cops said the family members suspect a youth within the village who had a financial dispute with the baby’s father to have committed the offence.
“Currently, we are yet to ascertain if the baby was sexually assaulted, and the results will be out tomorrow. But we did register a case with charges of attempted murder, rape and under relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012,” Reddy told
Further investigation is under way and two police teams have launched a search for the suspect.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
